LINWOOD.
The monthly meeting of the Linwood Borough Council was held last -eveningpresent—the Mayor (Mr Marshall), in the chair, and Councillors Jamieson, Board, Pearce, John Taylor, Cleworth and Joseph Taylor. An apology for absence was received from Councillor Ayers. The Mayor an.l Councillor Board reported that they had attended the meeting called for the purpose of electing members to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards, and that the Mayor had been elected to the Hospital Board and Councillor Beard to the Charitable Aid Board. They explained that they had exercised the votes which they were entitled to by law, which gives Linwood four votes, Woolston two and Stunner one vote. The action of the delegates was approved. Mr Gimbletfs offer to supply the Council with do"---collars for 1898 was accepted. It was decided that a poll in reference to the proposed loan should be taken on Monday, Dec. 20. The Finance Committee's report showed the receipts . . since last meeting to be .£468 Os 2d, debit balance at bank .£B3O lls Id. Accounts to the amount of .£224 4s lid were submitted for payment. The report was adopted. The Works Committee reported that Lady Perceval's fence adjoining Stanmore Eoad encroached considerably upon the footpath, and the tenant and agents had been requested to remove' it. It was decided that the ratepayers must remove gorse, as it is becoming a danger to their neighbourhood. I
