ACCIDENT TO LOED BEASSEY. TPer Press Association.] •. MELBOUENE, Feb. 23. Lord Brassey, while riding in Albert Park, accompanied by the Earl of Glasgow's daughters, was thrown from his horse. He struck the ground with his head andshoulders, but his helmet broke the impact ; otherwise his injuries would have been serious. As it was, he broke his collar-bone and received a severe shock. WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. Annan, whose name is at present unknown, fell or jumped into the harbour last night. Sergeant-Major Macdonald dived for him, and after five minutes got him cut, but though three hours were spent in trying to resuscitate the body, the efforts were useless. The man is apparently twenty-seven to thirty years of age, and looks like n, sailor. > DUNEDIN, Feb. 23. Mrs Jessie Coutts died Avhile under chloroform in the hospital this uiornfrff- .
