He struck the ground with his head andshoulders, but his helmet broke the impact ; otherwise his injuries would have been serious. As it was, he broke his collar-bone and received a severe shock. WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. Annan, whose name is at present unknown, fell or jumped into the harbour last night. Sergeant-Major Macdonald dived for him, and after five minutes got him cut, but though three hours were spent in trying to resuscitate the body, the efforts were useless.
