SPORTING.

FLEMINGTON NOTES. [Per Press Association.] MELBOURNE, Feb. 23. It was a beautiful morningandtho going was good, albeit somewhat heavy. Dora provided the surprise of the morning by galloping clean away from Stafi'a, and finishing with consummate ease in lmin ISfsec. This was an extraordinarily good performance. Eeka and Survivor traversed the Newmarket distance in lmin 19sec, and Newhaven bowled over a mile merrily n lrain 51sec without displaying the slightest symptoms of soreness. Carlton spurted half a mile nicely in ul.Vsec ; ho is in magnificent condition — lusty, yot muscular. Valiant and El Norte occupied 53sec over a similar journey. O'Trigger finished in front of Bloodshot and Homespun over a sterling mile and a half in 2min 4Ssec. Hova, who does not require much work to put him in condition, swung round two miles on the tan like a piece of machinery. He is likely to prove troublesome to the champion three-year-old in the Essendon Stakes on Saturday if started in preference to the Newmarket Handicap. Cinder Ellen clashed over a clinking nine furlongs, covering the last mile in lmin 47sec. Owing to the refusal of Messrs Weatherby to admit Newhaven's name in the English Stud Book, the idea of taking him Home has been abandoned, and Mr Cooper is disposing of him to Mr Jones, pending a veterinary examination to-day.
