UNITED THIRTEEN v. LANCASTER PARK THIRTEEN.
These teams met at Hagley Park, the United batting first. The wicket at one end appeared slower than at the other, and this fact militated a good deal against consistent scoring. Smith went in when the bowling had broken down a.good.deal, and soon hit up his runs, but for all that no fault could be found with his cricket.Tapper played his usual stubborn game, and gave his opponents a lot of trouble. Eeeves started off very confidently and well and seemed set for a good score, when over - confidence led to his downfall. Labatt bowled steadily, Smith moderately, and Willis badly. The fielding of the Park team, however, was distinctly good, A. Hobbs, at point, proving himself a veritable stonewall. The visiting team bad to bat when the light was failing, and careful play became the general rule. Pavitt was the exception, and made his runs in about four hits —one of them clean out of the ground. The ground fielding of the United was' good, but three catches were missed. Scores : — UNITED THIRTEEN. First Innings. H. M. Eeeves, b Labatt 13 G. Weston, c Hobba b Labatt ... ... 9 J.
