MR RHODES'S RECEPTION
RESENTMENT IN THE TRANSVAAL. [Per Press Association.] CAPE TOWN, Jan. 3. .The enthusiasm displayed at the reception of Mr Cecil Rhodes on his return to Cape Town from Griqualand, has given rise to a strong feeling of resentment; in the Transvaal. PEETOEIA, Jan. 4. Judge Jerrison, who acted as chief spokesman of the deputation ot* leading residents of Pretoria wlio waited on President Kruger with reference to the flattering "reception accorded to Mr Cecil TRhodes on This return to Cape Town, condemned the Cape people for feting the chief criminal jof Dr Jameson's Transvaal raid [ while claiming to value the Transvaal's friendship. Such action, the Judge said, wa* an insult to the Transvaal Republic, and, was ominou-* of the future. President Etfuger, who appeared deeply moved ouring the delivery of the speech, remained silent. j LONDON, Jan. 4. The Times rays that Mr Rhodes has been guilty of bad taste.
