DUjSTEDIjST, August 27.
Mr Carew, S.M., gave judgment to-day in a case in which the City Corporation sought to compel brothers named Laing to puli down three cottages, on the ground that they were insanitary and a danger to public health. The Corporation had obtained a certificate from two medical men as to the condition of the buildings. The Magistrate said that there was a wide difference in the evidence of the medical men on each side. No compensation was provided by the Act, and before an order was made he thought it should be clearly proved that the condition of the buildings was such that there was real danger to the health of the tenants and neighbours. The tenant of what appeared to have been tlie worst of the houses had resided in it twelve years and brought up a healthy family. His Worship ordered one out-closet to be pulled down, but dismissed the information in respect to others, no costs to either side.
