[Pee Press Association.] DUNEDIN", August 27. At Tapnnui to-day, Edward Sheath, a i young mail, was committed for trial on a charge of perjury in connection -with the evidence he gave in two cases of alleged sly-grog selling. Sheath on that occasion denied giving information to a constable, and denied that the statement produced was signed by him. To-day a witness gave evidence that he was with Sheath when ho made the statement and saw him sign it. Rumours for months past that there would be competition for the privilege for a further term of fourteen years of the Mornington Tramway Company led toalarge attendance at the auction sale to-day, when the Morniugton rights were offered at a rental of dBlOl per annum, and a valuation of .£15,500. There was no bid and the riijht went to tho present Company.
