ISLINGTON FACTORY PICNIC.

The employes of the Islington freezing workß and their friends held their annual picnic at Little Eiver on Saturday. A special train, which left Christchurch at 7.30 a.m., conveyed the picnickers, about i 850 in number, to their destination. The ; weather was beautiful, and a very enjoy- ; able day was spent. The majority of the excursionists spent the time in the recreation grounds, but a number paid a visit to the bush. Following are ' the results of the sports : — lslington Grand Handiap, of three distances : 100 yds— Ti Petrie scr, 1 ; Crawford syds, 2 ; Lindsay J 7yds, 3. 200yds— Hadley 6yds, 1; Craw- i ford syds, 2 ; Petrie scr, 3. 300 yds — Crawford 15yds, 1 ; Hadley 16yds, 2 ; Petrie scr, 3. Single "Women's Eace,. 100 yds — Miss Harper l,Miss Brown 2. Half-mile Walk —Hartley 1, Blake 2, Parish 3. Wool hands Eace, 100yds— T. Davison 3yds, 1 ; Spicer scr, 2 ; Brown 6yds, 3. Married Women's Eace — Mrs Miller 1, Mrs Burt 2. Long Jump — T. Davison scr, 16ft S'^ua, 1 ; T. Hranm Bin, 16ft Bin,2. Sack Eace— Spicer 1, Urquhart 2. Butchers' Eace, 100yds— E. Mussen scr, 1 ; J. Wright 2. Visitors' Eace, 100 yds — T. Austin' 1, Jones 2, Benjamin 3. 100 yds, open— T. Petrie 1, C. Wragg 2, P. Lindsay 3. Crawford takes first place in the Grand Handicap, Petrie and Hadley tying for second. A protest has, however, been entered against Crawford, and also against the winner of the Half-mile Walk. A tug-of-war between teams representing the wool hands and the butchers v/as won by the former.
