' . WQEKEES' UNION.
An adjourned meeting of the Christchurch Branch of the New Zealand Workers' Union was held at the office, Manchester Street, on Saturday evening, the President (Mr W. W.Collins, M.H.8.) in the chair. The Secretary read a circular from the Canterbury Federated Liberal Council, also a -copy of the Constitution, with the request that the Union should join the Council and send one delegate. After considerable discussion, it was decided to affiliate with the Council, and the Union pledged itself to give, all assistance at the bye-election to secure the return of a 'suitable candidate. Mr J. M'Ha/rg was elected delegate to the Council. A resolution was passed instructing the delegate to support the candidature of Mr J; L.Scott. It was decided by the unanimous vote of the meeting to hand over to the late Secretary (Mrs Garmsonj .£5, as a further payment on account of the grant made to her "on her retiring from .office. After routine business had been disposed of; the follow- ! ing resolution was unanimously carried— j"That the Christchurch Branch of the New Zealand Workers' Union, numbering five hundred members, send their heartiest thanks, to the Hon W. P. Eeeves for his persistent and consistent advocacy of the cause of the workers, and begs to assure him of the Union's profound regret at the loss the labour cause of New Zealand has sustained by his departure for the Old Country."
