Taylor or Scott? is the question asked by a correspondent -whose letter appears in this issue. The letter is, of course, intended to help Mr T. E. Taylor and to :damage Mr J. L. Scott, but we do not thihk that it will do either the one thing orthe other. The letter, 'it' will at once be perceived, contains several mis-state-ments. For example, we have the contradictory assertions that the representative who tvas returned at the Auckland by-elec-tion is "colourless," and is a Conservative. Similarly the writer commits himself, to the declarations that the Government' induced Mr Scott to come forward, that a deputation did so, and that the deputation was antagonistic to labour interests. As | matters of fact, the deputation that waited upon Mr Scott directly represented sorae important labour sections, and it was to; this . deputation that . Taylor might be classed as. a Conservative, inasmuch as a Conservative writer in a Conservative journal declares that the Prohibition candidate '.'is strongly opposed* to the present Government," and that on this account many Conservatives have' promised him their Votes; -
