[Peb Pbkss Association.] NAPIER, August 2. A largely attended ne ting of sheepfarmers' and those interested in the frozen meat industry was held to-day, when Messrs Nathan and W. Nelson spoke. The latter said Mr Nathaa'a scheme was thoroughly impracticable at preeent. The cool storage at Home was amply sufficient. He combated the theory advanced by Mr Nathan of the existence of a Smithfield "ring." As a result ot Mr Nelson's visit Home, freights next year will probably be reduced by 10 to 15 per cent. WANGANUI, August 2. The police, have ascertained that the man Whitmore and two boys who were missing, were found in the bush after two days' search. Whitmore is to be charged with stealing a watch and a gun. The search party had to swim the river near Karioi. It had been snowing, and it is a wonder the fugitives were not frozen to death. WELLINGTON, August 2. For the criminal seseions, which will begin on Monday, there are only nine caees against eleven prisoners, but two of them are murder; Somerville's csae from Master too, and the charge against Kennedy and Jewett, in which a woman was burned to death by a lamp being thrown at her. The arreais of Orown tenants in the Wellington district amount to £11,220, of which .£2OOO is owing by special settlers* The Minister has directed that where two years' rent ia overdue, etf-ps shall be taken to forfeit the holdings, subject to the merits of each case. The Times states that an action for libel, claiming iJSOOO damages, ia to be brought against a prominent newspaper, the name of which ia not given, on account of strictures on the Government Insurance Department. At a meeting of the High School Board of Governors to-day, a letter was received from Dr Belcher, sending in his resignation, aa from February next, of the rectorship of the Boya' High School.
