Crabb, Grand Lodge Visiting Deputy, is now in this colony, under engagement by the Grand Lodge Executive of New Zealand for Biz ' months. He is said to be a powerful . temperance lecturer. ■ He will address a meeting at the Oddfellows' Hall, Lyttelton, j to-nighti j ChBIBTCHUBOH MABTEB PBINTEBS' ABBO- • ciatiok. — A largely-attended meeting cf . this Association was held yesterday after- : noon, when several matters of importance to the trade were discussed, and the following resolutions were carried unanimously : — " That steps be taken to register this Association under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1894;" and also/ "That an invitation be given to all master printera throughout the Canterbury district to join this Association, and thus Becure any benefits that may be derived from such registration." A subcommittee was appointed for the purpose of drafting ruleß, to be submitted to a general meeting at an early date. i Refusing Dutjt.— A fireman on the a.s. Duke of Westminster waß summoned before the Court, atTimaru, yesterday, for refusing duty on -Sunday. He did not appear. The Chief Engineer and Captain Prentice gave evidence thai; defendant refused to turn to in either of his w&tches on Sunday, but he gave them no reason for it. Sergeant-major M'Donald said the man came to him and said he had refused to work, because he saw no necessity for l working on Sunday, as they were in port ; but that the fact of the matter was he wanted to be paid off. Captain Prentice said the watches were needed to keep np Bteam for the refrigerators, and so as to be ready to leave at a moment's notice. The Bench (Captain Sutter and Mr J. J« Grandi, J.P.s) sentenced the defendant to seven days' imprisonment, to pay costß, 7s, and forfeit twenty-four hours' wages. The hedgehog, badger, squirrel and some kinds of mice lay up a regular, store of provisions for the winter. It is said that they eat only during mild weather, and in extreme cold remain torpid.
