Van Buren made play until the straight was reached, when The Arbiter took command, and, going on, won comfortably by half-a-lenth from Van Buren, with Manilla a length away third. Time— lmin 19sec. Dividend— £2 6s. CONSOLATION HANDICAP, of 60 sove, second horEe 5 sovb. Seven furlongs. 79 Mr H. Lunn's ch h Clanranald, by St Leger —Scottish Lassie, 6yrs, ■ Bst 121b (W.Clark) fl 9 Mr C. Clark's b m Mountain Maid, aged, 6st 101b (carried 6st 121b) (Pyne) f2 31 Mariner 7st 131b, 29 Speculator 7st 71b, 107 Bannby 7at 51b, 27 Warrington 7st 21b and 9 Bowshot 68b Tib also started. Mountain Maid was in front until the straight was reached. Here she was challenged by Earmby, who, however, retired at the rails, and Clanaanald, who had been the last to inove, coming with a tremendous rush, got up just' on the post, and a dead heat resulted. Time— lmin 32sec. Dividends— On Clanxanald £1 13s, on Mountain Maid £14 11s, The owner of Clanranald insisted upon running off, but as the owner of Mountain Maid refused to do bo, Clanranald was declared the winner.
