The Finance Committee of tbe City Council has presented a report, recommending that no wages be paid for holidays, exoept Christmas Day and Good Friday 4 I The Mayor said this would effect a Baring 1 of abont £500 per annum, and would make ! the people more careful about asking the Council to proclaim a public holiday. The 1 report waß, however, postponed for a month to enable inquiries to be made as to . the practice in other towns.
