The Statist says that investors want to have a separate trust constituted in London to control the New South Wales Sinking Fund. The Times reports large sales of Italian rentes, the proceeds of which are being invested in Colonial bonds. Wool shippers report that owing to fixed charters it is difficult to obtain vessels which can arrive in time to allow the series sales in January. It is expected that a final decision will be arrived at on Monday. Tallow, medium mutton, 28s ; beef, 27s 6d. The English wheat market has a weak tone, the Continental is declining, and the American is depressed.

The New Zealand Land Association, Limited, has received the following cable message, dated LONDON, Oct. 7. The wool sales closed firmly this day. Since the close of last sales greasy and washed super merino, and washed medium and inferior merino are to Id per lb lower; greasy medium and inferior merino are par to per lb higher ; scoured medium and inferior merino and greasy medium cross-bred are |d to Id per lb higher. Fine greasy, fino and medium washed, and fine and medium scored crossbred are per lb higher. Coarse greasy, washed and scoured crossbred are |d per lb higher. Other descriptions are unchanged. There is no American demand. The total quantity sold during the past sales is 184,000 bales of which 80,000 bales have been taken for export, and it is estimated that 35,000 bales have been held over for future disposal.
