The finances of the Hutfc County Council being in an unsatisfactory condition, owing to damage by floods, the Council has decided to resort to the toll-gate system within its boundaries. Some two or three years ago the Council ereoted a toll-gate near Ngahauranga, on the Hutt road, and notwithstanding the fact that it was watched by the police, the residents broke it up and threw the dibrit into the harbour.
