SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
Ordinary Meeting. I An ordinary meeting of the Selwyn Council was held this morning; present — Mr D.M'Millan (Chairman), and Messrs B. Weßtenra, W.Boag, T. York, W. Dunlpp, J. Eennie, T. H. Anson, 3. G. Murray and H. W. Peryman. , chaibman'b statement. The Chairman stated that the following correspondence had been received:— From the Ellesmere Road Board, reporting the completion of: the extension of the Boggy Creek drain, and enclosing a, statement of the money expended on the destruction of small birds. _ Prom the Avon r Road Board,' relative to repairs required to White's Bridge. From the Executive Committee of the Queensland relief fund. :.. Beporb from the Committee appointed to consider the petition for the constitution of the Borough of Wooleton. 'Letter from the Resident Engineer; calling attention to the condition of the Lower Selwyn bridge. Reports from Mr East on the river Halawell, and from the Inspector 1 of Slaughterhouses. A return of the traffic at the Bealey ferry and several letters on water-race matters had been received. ALLBGKD TA Jf PEEING. WITH WATBR-BACBS. Messrs J. G. Taylor and Middleton, reaidents on Shand'B road, hear Prebbleton, waited on the Council and complained that they had had no water from the race in that locality for three weeks, on account of the race above their properties having been continually tampered with, so as. to divert the water on to other land. The Chairman promised that the affair should be attended to. '■..'"." MISCELLANEOUS. It was decided to pay the amounts applied for by the Ellesmere Road Board. The Avon Road Board was authorised to tret the timber necessary for the repairs to White's bridge. . ■ ' . . Several members gave donations to the Queensland Relief Fund, and it was decided that,, when all the members have returned their subscription lists, the amount raised should be expended in produce. ' The Committee appointed to consider the petition,' presented to the Governor by residents in Wooktoa, praying him to constitute, the district a Borough, reported that the matter was not one calling for the interference of the County Council at present. . , • The report was adopted. The letter from the Resident Engineer with: regard: to the Lower Selwyn bridge was referred to the Elleßmere Road Board, which has charge of the bridge. It was decided to ask the Road Boards interested to have the willows overhanging the river Hals well trimmed. After transacting some routine bupineßß and passing accounts amounting to .£1169 13s Id, the Council adjourned.
