. Canteebuey Caledonian Society. — The eleventh annual meeting of the Canterbury Caledonian Society was held last night, and ia reported elsewhere. Mr Patrick Campbell was elected President for the ensuing year. Fire.— An incomplete telegram received from Greymouth laßt night states that a fire had occurred at Ahaurn, doing a considerable amount of damage. The message gives as "additional" details, insurances, Johnston, JB4OO in the New Zealand Office, and Garth, £500 in the Manchester. Presentation at Kaiapoi.— On Sunday afternoon the scholars connected with Mrs Eobins' Bible-class at St Bartholomew's Sunday school, presented that lady, on the occasion of her leaving the school, with a complete edition of Hymns Ancient and Modern, bound in morocco, and they each received a small book in return. Acclimatisation. — In addition to th* consignment of lobsters coming to the Colony by the lonic, delayed at Capetown with a broken shaft, there are on board 100,000 young salmon imported ■at the instance of the New Zealand Government,. and thirty Virginian quail and twenty Mallard wild duck for the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. Silver Wedding. — On Friday evening, at Okain's Bay, Mr and Mrs W. :H k Walker celebrated their silver wedding by holding • a social gathering in the Athenaeum Hall. In response to invitations about 120 people attended. Unfortunately the weather during the afternoon and evening was very disagreeable,, andrain coming on prevented the presence of many friends. The hall was very prettily decorated, and, under Mr H. Sefton,. a varied programme of songs, duets, dances and> pianoforte solos was gone through. Mr Walker, «junr., largely contributed to the musical portion of the programme.. Mr and Mrs Walker received the hearty congratulations of their guests, and at about 4.30' a.m. the numerous gathering dispersed, all testifying to the enjoyable evening spent. Union Rowing Club.— A meeting of the Committee of the Union Eowing Club was held at the boathouse last evening. A circular was read from the Rev E. E. Chambers, Lyttelton, stating that it was proposed to hold a picnic regatta at Rhodes' ; Bay, in aid of the Queensland sufferers, on March 16, and asking for/ any suggestions. It was deoided to recommend that all the races should be, rowed i in stump outriggers, and that they 'should j conoist of Senior Pairs »nd Double Sculls, Senibr Single Sculls, Maiden Pairs and Junior Double Soulle. The first; stwo events to be allotted £3 each, the ofciwra £2 each, with small entrance-fees. It was decided to hold the smoke concert?andpresentation of prizes on Thursday, March/ 23.'
