Linwood Town Board.
An ordinary meeting of this Board waß held on Monday; Commissioners Atkinson (Chairman), Brunt, Wilson, Bean, Pentecost and Marshall being present. An apology was received for the absence of Commissioner Dombrain. A list of recipients of charitable aid was received from the Charitable Aid Board, with a request that it should be open to public inspection. The list was considered, and it was decided to suggest that in future lists the number of children in each family should be stated. Letters were read: — From Mr E. O'Connor, on the subject of the kerbing on the East belt r referred to the Works Committee. From the Committee of the Labour Day Demonstration, asking the Board's patronage and presence at the racecourse on Dec. 16. It waa resolved to acknowledge the letter, with thanks for the invitation. From the.Colonial Secretary, stating that the petition as tothe constitution of the Borough of Linwood waa presented to his Excelleno; the Governor on Nov. 14. From the Drainage Board, regarding the Tuam street drain and stating that until some guarantee waß given for payment of the estimated interest and sinking fund on the cost of improving the Toam street drain, by the construction of an invert, Buoh cost being estimated at some J6300, it could not take any action in the matter. Commissioner Wilson urged that, aB the drain was kept open for the benefit of the city, the City Council should be asked to contribute towards the cost. After discussion, it was resolved—" That the Chairman and Commissioners Wilson and Brant wait upon the City Council, and endeavour to obtain a contribution towards the cost of an invert." The Clerk was directed to furnish particulars and anestimateof the coat. From Mesara Joynt and Andrews, asking for a further extension of time wherein to obtain the Governor's " order " for the construction of the City and Suburban Tramway Company's line. Commissioner Bean moved, and Commissioner Pentecost seconded— -" That this Board hereby grants the City and Suburban Tramway Company a farther extension of time wherein to obtain the Governor's 'order' for the construction of the said tramway to Jan. 1,1893, provided that the amount due the Board by the said Company, on account of the Stanmore bridge, is paid not later than Nov. 30, 1892, otherwise no extension of time wherein to obtain the said 'order* beyond Deo. 1, 1892, will be granted." Commissioner Wilson moved as an amendment— ''That all the words after • 1893 ' be struck out, and the following substituted— ' and this Board begs to remind, the Company that its contribution to the repairs of Stanmore bridge has not been paid ; also, it ia hoped it will not be further delayed.'" The amendment was seconded by Commissioner Marshall and carried. The Chairman stated that the receipts since last meeting were .£350 93 2d, and that the credit balance at the bank wa« .£llO la Id. The cash in hand amounted to Jei4l7s 9d. The paysheet was passed for payment. It was resolved to call the attention of the police to the number of hones and cattle herded on the roads in the eastern part of the district. The Board then eat aB the local Board of Health. The Inspector's report was read and considered, and the meeting terminated.
