Baptibt Chitbch. — A tea and a public meeting in connection with the twentjsecond anniversary of the Oxford terrace Baptist Tabernacle Sunday school were held last night, and were most successful. About fire hundred scholars and their friends sat down to tea, after which a public meeting was held. The pastor, the Bey W. J. Birch, presided. The other speakers were the Rev G. D. Cox, President of the New Zealand Baptist Union, the Eev W. Morley, the Ber D. Dolamore, and the former pastor of the Tabernacle, the Eev C. Dallaaton. Mr Martini Secretary of the school, read the annual report, from which it appeared that sixty-four children had joined the school during the year, and only a few had left, leaving tbe number now on the roll at 373. "The Young Christian Band" and the Band of Hope showed a rery large increase of members. The Treasurer's report showed a credit balance. Six young persons offered themselves for foreign mission work. Abhbueton Borough Council. — The fortnightly meeting of the Asbburton Borough Council was held on Monday evening; present— The Mayor and Councillors Thomas, Jones, Paul, Flower, Duncan, Anderson, Orr and Cuthbertson. The Mayor stated that the overdraft at the bank stood at .£659 13s. The Engineer's report, which was read, and adopted, Bhowed that a very satisfactory amount at -work had been done during the last fortnight. The tender of Mr F. Makeig for making the valuation of the borough was accepted. The Clerk to the Hampstead Town Board wrote, asking for a water supply for the Hampatead district for an annual payment of £1. Councillor Thomas moved that a reply should be sent that the Council could not entertain the application at the price mentioned. Councillor Cuthbertson seconded the motion. After a long discussion the motion was carried, with an addendum to the effect that the Council would consider any reasonable proposal. The Council then Bat as a Domain Board. The Cycling Club wrote, asking for authority to prevent cyclists not belonging to the Club from using the track. The request was granted. Permission was granted. to the Eev' J-- Cocker to hold a picnic in the Domain" and a camp meeting. The tender of Mr T. r Welch; at iJB27r 17s, 1 for additions to the pavilion? was accepted. ',
