KAIAFOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Tuesday night ; present—The Mayor and Councillors Weston, Mathews, Hopkins, Brighting, Lisßamen, Butt and Evans. Letters were read : — From the caretaker, asking that a pipe well should be put down at his house, and that material fora fence should be granted to him. The requests were granted*. From the Trades Hall, asking for the Council's patronage at the Labour Demonstration on Dec. 16. The letter was ordered to be received and acknowledged. From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, with reference to the election. It was resolved to appoint Councillor Evans to represent the Council on the election. From the Charitable Aid Board, cover ing a list of persons receiving aid. From the Department of Justice as to Mr Moreley's appointment aB Clerk of the Licensing Bench. The Surveyor reported that the drain from North road to Dudley's drain, and the Hugh street drain, required cleaning out- Owing to the rapid growth of ' weeds in side channels, the assistance of an extra man would be required. The rail ' of the bridge in Hilton street required | renewing. The report, which was adopted, was referred to the Works Committee, 1 with power to apt. 1 Councillor Lissamen reported for the 1 Finance Committee that the receipts for the past fortnight were JBIS 4s, general • account overdrawn £609 5s 3d, loan ac- : count in credit 15s ; and recommended pay- ' ment of accounts amounting to .£23 2s Id. ' The report was adopted. Councillor Butt moved, and Councillor 1 Hopkins seconded— -"That a letter be sent 1 to the Government calling their attention 1 to the repairs required to the planking of the bridge." This was carried. It was reEolved — " That Mr Storerer be informed that the Council expect him to put in culvert in Broom street in contract time." With regard to the inspection of the fire engine it was resolved that the Engineer should be allowed the necessary assistance to prepare the engine for inspection. It waß resolved that the question of granting a half-holiday to the foreman should stand over till next meeting. Councillor Butt moved, and Councillor Lissamen seconded — "That this Council do not join the Municipal Association." TMs waß carried. The meeting then terminated.
