Canterbury Saleyards Company.

» The following is the annual report of the Directors of the Canterbury Saleyarda Company.— "la submitting the balanoesheet and profit and loss statement for the past year, ycur Directors have to report a fair amount of business, which has enabled them to continue paying dividends, notwithstanding the heavy lobs of 1890, whea a debit balance had to be carried forward ; also to pay an interim dividend of 5 per cent., leaving a sum of J8536 19s to be dealt with, which we recommend to be appropriated as follows:— To payment of a dividend of 4 per cent on the paid-up capital, making total dividend equal to 9 per cent for the year, £510; to carry forward to new account £29 19s ; total, £536 19a. During the year a substantial improvement in the shape of a concrete sheep-dip of the latest design has been erected, and will doubtless prove a profitable source of revenue in addition to' supplying a long-felt want. The improvements contemplated by altering the cattle yards and pavilion are now being pushed forward, and your Directors consider such will offer greater facilities for sale of fat stock and add to the comfort of the public. As these improvements will cost money, your Directors desire an expression of opinion from the shareholders as to the advisability of making a further call on capital, or take same from the Dilapidation Fund. The totals of stock passed through the yards during the past year are:— Sheep, 437,070; cattle, 19,900 ; pigs, 13,931. The retiring Directors are Messrs Oeorge Tickner, James Feather and John Ferguson, who retire by rotation, but are eligible for re-election, and offer themselves accordingly. A vacancy on the Board having been caused by Mr John Mann ceasing to be eligible, it will be necessary to elect a Director in his place. The dividend, if approved of, will be payable at the Company's office on and after Thursday, Feb. 18, 1892."
