The i Maerewhenua river is still rising I At dark last night several settlers had I narrow escapes from drowning, being t rescued from their houses by ropes. It it I reported that a man is lost on the ranges I above Kurow ; the police are enquiring. • ' The man reported to have been drowned at l Kakanui has turned up. The weather is '. now fine with a brisk breeze. , ! The damage to the crops cannot now be otherwise than very serious.
