NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the General Committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held in the A.M.F. Buildings last night t present— Mr J. F. Grierson (in the chair), Messrs Muter (S.C.A.A.C.), Hawkes (D.A.A.C.), Marshall (Wanganui), Tonks and Croxton (Auckland), Wood fC.A.A.C), Lean (Hawke's Bay), Ridings (Auckland), Cotterill and Harman (Wellington), Dr Moorhouee (D. A.A.C.) and Mr Cuff (Secretary). Mr Cuff stated that the sports meeting would leave a profit of £13, but he had not the balance-sheet quite complete.
A letter was received from Mr Kelleher, Palmerston North, stating 1 that they were anxious to form a Club, to be called the Manawatu Amateur Athletic Club, and asking for instructions aa to dealing with desirable members who have run in open races, and have thus disqualified themselves as amateurs.
The Secretary's lengthy reply was approved, and it was decided that as much lenienoy as possible should be extended towards such Clubs as the Manawatu.
A similar letter was read from Mr R. W. Wilson, Greendale, and the Secretary undertook to reply to the same effect as to the Manawata.
Mr A. Lowry wrote, asking for the Association's decision as to the cash prize system. The Committee received the letter.
Sixteen applications for reinstatement were reoeived and dealt with as follows :— A. Good, P. H. Eobertson, G. E. Piper, H. M'Neill, E. H. Eockel, J. J. Brice, E. H. Whiteman, W. L. Whiteman (Wanganui) were reinstated. C. H. Leskie (Wellington) was asked to apply again in November. A. d'Arcy (Wellington) to apply again in twelve months. W. H. Jones (Wellington) waa reinstated. C. Whiteman (Napier), W. Haywood, J. L. Carl, C. H. Cook (ChristchurclO, reinstated. W. Baich (Christchurch) to apply again in November. T. H. Bobinson (Christchurch) was held over.
The statement emanating from Dunedin that the cost of Bending an amateur team to England would amount to .£IOOO was emphatically denied, as the estimated cost will not exceed £550 for five men, and from information recently received from England it is likely to cost considerably less. Thiß closed the business.
