The Marine Board inquiry into the e.s. Manapouri touching ground near Cape Schanck found Captain Logan guilty of neglect j but taking into consideration his long service, together with the fact that he has resigned his position in the Company, the Board decided only to suspend his certificate for a month. Captain Logan completely broke down on hearing the decision.

A boy named King, aged twelve, was drowned in the Manawatu river this afternoon. Deceased, with four others, was crossing in the Wirokino ferry punt with a horse and cart, when the horse backed the cart over the end of the punt, and King went under with it.
On Tuesday afternoon a son of Mr Christmaß, of the Ohoka mill,-whenproceed-ing along Baven'B quay, Kaiapoi, driving a t harnessed horse on foot, got Mb leg "tentangled in the leather reins, and the horse starting off, dragged him some two hundred yards to opposite Mr Black well's shop. Here the accident was observed by a plucky young lady named Miss Yogel, who, seizing a broom, adroitly turned the horse into the yard, where he was secured. On relieving the boy from his awkward position, he was found to be uninjured. At Eangiora yesterday a horae and trap belonging to Mr J. Sutherland, of Sefton, came into collision, in turning the corner at the junction of Ashley and High Btreeta, with one owned and driven by Mr J. Barker, of Fernsido. A shaft entered the side of the latter'a horse, and it was found necessary to destroy the animal.
