Organ Eecital. — Owing to the inclemency of the weather the organ recital at St Luke's is indefinitely postponed. The Kainpall. — Mr Sbansell's record shows that the rainfall for the twentyfour hours ending 9 a.m. to-day, was •84in. The wind was South-west throughout. Admitted to the Bar. — In Chambers this morning, his Honor Mr Justice Ward admitted Mr Frederick Edward Cobby as a barrister of the Supreme Court of the New Zealand, on the application of Mr Greason. South Waimakaribi Eiver Board. — In response to the invitation to visit the river this morning, only three members appeared, viz., Messrs Lambert, Peryman, and England. As no others came, and the weather was bad, it was resolved to postpone the visit till next Monday. This ia 1 the second postponement, as on Friday lasj; only two members attended, viz., Messrs England and Lambert.

New Brighton School Committee. — A meeting of this Committee was held on Tuesday night, the Eev Walter Dunkley in the chair. Tbe Secretary, Mr C. Poster, was requested to communicate with the Board of Education, reminding them of their promise to build a school at the Beach township, and the meeting adjourned till a reply was. received. St Matthew's Parish. — A reading was given last evening in the Bchoolroom, by Mr W. H. Warren, who took Dickens' " Christmas Carol" for his performance. The various pathetic and humorous episodes of the well-known tale -srere handled ■with great cleverness by the reader. Many were unable to attend owing to the wet weather, but Mr Warren intends to repeat the reading, and they will then have an opportunity of hearing his excellent delivery of ifc. Thr Weather and thb Streets. — The heavy rain in the early part of this morning has had the effect of giving the streets a thorough washing, and there has been no damage whatever done to any of the works. The new drain on the East belt had the desired effect of relieving that portion of the town oi! the, water that ha 3 hitherto always accumulated in large quantities in the neighbourhood of Chester and Armagh streets, at their junction with the belt. Towards noon a decided change for the better had sot in.

Probates, &c. — In Chambers this morning, his Honor Mr Justice Ward granted probate in tb« estate of John Simpson, deceased, to Sarah Ann Simpson, on the application of Mr Swarm; and in the estate of David M f Cleai*y, deceased, to W. J. Wilson «id David Wilson, on the application o£ Mr M'Connel., His Honor also granted letters of administration in the estate of Martha Bboden, deceased, to William Rhodes and Henry Sheridan Bushell, on the application of Mr Thomas ; and in the estate of Elkanah Armitage, deceased, to Leonard Harper and Thomag William Maude, on the application of Mr TJeswink; and in the estate of Bridget Fitzgibbon, dfroasf d, to Norah Lloyd, oa the application of Mr Außtin. A Cubiods Incident. — Letters of administration were granted by his Honor Mr Justice Ward this morning, under the will of one David M'Cleary, which presented a rather curious feature. The testator, it appeared, could not write ; accordingly his will was written and read to him by one v of ihe executots. who then inadvertently signed his own name at the foot of the document. His Christian name happened to be the same as that of the testator. Tho latter affixed his mark without findinsr out the uiiatake, which perhaps is not remarkable, as, seeing that he could not write, very probably he could not read. A more curious feature of the affair is that certain persons attested the signature i without finding out the blunder. j Postponement. — We have been re- | quested to state that, owing to the wet . weather, the sale to have been held by Mr ' F. H. Pickering, at the residence of Mr J. G. Harris, 83, Armagh street, to-day, will not take place until Monday. August 13, at eleven o'clock. An advertisement tothat effect appears in this issue.
