FATAL ACCIDENT' ON THE RAILWAY.
A elderly man named TV illiam Iktea, •said to be a ehairsiakor ont oi business, and lately redding on the East Velt, meb his death by accident on tho railway to-day. He took a secondclass ticket for Opawa, and rode in a smoking carriage of the 12.10 p.m. train from Christchurch. Wo one noticed tho man fall oil the train, butone hundred yards this side of the Wilson's road station the train wa3 i'elfc to go over something, and on pullicg up, Bates' body was found lying: on. the fails, almost; cut in two. He was dressed in tm ordinary tweed suit, and a tall silk hat. The body was seiit to Chriatchurch in a luggage van drawn by an'engiue, and on arrival &t Christchuich was taken to the Terminus Hotel. An inquest will be held on the body of deceased, who wa3 apparently afcout seventy years old.
