The Volunteers.

A PROJECTED BAZAAB. A meeting' of ladies willing to assist the N Battery of Artillery in getting up a bazaar was held in the Colonist Hall, Lyttelton, yesterday afternoon. There were about thirty present and the chair was taken oy Mrs Allwright (Mayoress). Great spirit and enthusiasm was shown by those present, and it was decided to take the necessary steps to get the affair worked up, and th« following Ladies' Committee was formed---Mesdames Allwright, O'Brien, Gilmore, Galbmth, Pierce, Brice, and Lane. A suggestion to get up a concert to stark the fund for purchasing material met with, great support. It was pointed out that, as New Year's Day is almost the only holiday in the year the ladies had to themeelves, it would be well to hold the bazaar during Christmas week. After deciding several other matters in connection with the affair, the meeting closed. As tha matter has now been taken in hand by the ladies, there is little doubt but that it will be a great success. The two companies of Volunteers i» Ashburton had a Government parade on Tuesday evening, at which there wa» a<> fair attendance of all ranks. Major Douglas was inspecting officer. Th» alteration of the inspection night from Monday to Tuesday has enabled many more Volunteers to be present on parade, [ consequently the parade states for th» ourrent quarter are expected to showbetter than did the first quarter of th» year.
