AUCKLAND, Feb. 23. Professor Brown haß been elected President of the Auckland Institute for the , forthcoming year. At a meeting of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board a letter wa3 read from the Relieving Officer calling attention to the reckless manner in whioh children •were committed to the Industrial Schools. Sixteen had been committed in one week. It was resolved to call the attention of the Minister for Education to the matter, requesting action to be taken to stop the the indiscriminate committal o£ children to Homes. .The Auckland Bootmakers' Union are taking Btepa to determine tho number of apprentices to journeymen.
