At a quarter-past nine o'clock this morning a three-roomed wooden cottage in Montreal street south, near Aulsebrook's biscuit factory, was burned to a wreck. It belonged to an infant, named Thomas Hostler, for whom Mr E. Parkerson is trustee, and had been unoccupied for a considerable time. It is supposed tbat some tramp, sleeping in the building last night, may have caused the fire, which was til'St observed by a neighbour, named Mrs Cardale. The alarm was given at Box No. 14, which, by registering No. 4 at Lichfield street station, somewhat confused the firemen. However, the Extinguisher and the Chemical Engine were soon on the ground, and, a plentiful supply of water being obtained from the new tank in Montreal Btreet, put out the fire almost immediately, leaving the cottage a blackened shell. It was insured in the Northern office for £50.
