Board of Conservators.
♦ THIS DAY. The monthly meeting of the South Waimakariri Board of Conservators was held at 2 p.m. to-day ; present —Mr H. W. Peryman (Chairman), Messrs F. Jones, T. C. Moorhouse, W. Attwood, H. Atkinson, and S. P. Andrews. Mr Jones, as Chairman of the Worts Committee, reported that the Committee had visited reserve 1360 at Chaney's corner, uud had called for tenders for leasing the same in three lots at the expiration of the present holder's term. Several tenders had been received, which would be laid before the Board. Mr Johns interviewed the Board reference to a portion of the Board's Reserve 1360, which he had occupied for some time, and which he had received from the Avon Eoad Board in exchange for a portion of his freehold required for a road. He wished, if possible, to retain possession of the portion of the reserve which he had fenced in. He had tendered for the block, including the land he referred to. The Chairman said the matter would be considered. Reports from Mr Jeal, Overseer of Works, were read. There had been three freshets in the river in September, but no great damage was done to the groins. Some further protective worts liad "been erected at a cost of .£9l 2s. The reports were received. Accounts amounting to .£355 4a Id were passed for payment. The Chairman said the Board's overdraft amounted to a little over .£IOOO. Mr Jones pointed out that nearly J6500 Avas due as rents. The Chief Surveyor wrote stating that the next time a surveyor was in the reighbourhood of Chaney's Corner, he would be instructed to traverse the south bank of the Wainiakariri. This was with reference to the survey of the reserves recently handed over to the Board by the Government. The Chairman then opened the various tenders which had been received for the lease of the Board's reserves at Chaney's Corner. The following 1 tenders were accepted: — For lot 1, 1)2 acres, Mr J. Andrews, at .£7 per annum; lot 2, 198 acres, Mr H. Davis, at .£SO per annum ; lot 3, 22 acres, Mr Chancy, at .£ll 11s per annum. The tender of Mr John's for lot three was the lowest of the three received. [LL-i't sitting.]
