CATHEDRAL GUILD.

The annual meeting of the Christohoroh Cathedral Guild was held in Christ's College Library last evening. There was a fairly numerous attendance, and the Very Rev the Dean presided. The Chairman stated that there was a balance of between £7 and £8 in the bank, and that a cum of about £70 (till remained owing by the Guild to the Chapter, on account of the west window. It was pro* posed to make a special effort to olear off this debt j the effort would very probably take the form of a conoert. When the debt had been paid off the Guild would be at liberty to undertake some other work for the benefit of the Cathedral, and one thing that was very well worthy their attention wai the procuring of timber for the completion of the ohanoel. He might mention that timber of the large size required for the ohancel wai getting very scarce. The erection of one of the pillars of the building might also be undertaken by the Guild. The eleotion of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows :—Vice-Presi-de nt», the Very Bey thf Dean and the Hon H. B, Gresson ; Secretary, Mr F. G. Btedman; Treasurer, Mr J. S. Jamesont Com* mistee, the Bey Canon Ootterill, Revs W. H. Sltoo, and F. Enowles, Messrs Beatson, Worthy, and Jtv«nis. The Bey A. W. Hands then gave an interesting lecture on the lives of three celebrated hymn-writers of the old church— John of Damascus, who flourished in the eighth century ; Robert 11., King of France from 697 to 1030; and Jaooponi Dortoni, author of "S*abat Mater." After the close of the lecture, which was illustrated by the singing of S:. vital hymns, a rote of thanks wa« uocorded to Mr Hands and the members of the ohoir.
