PRESENTATION.
Yesterday evening a number of musical gentlemen met at Mr Coombs' building to present Mr James Knox, of the Union Bank, with a souvenir iv token of his services to tho musical society and the choir of St. John's Church, in this city. The Eev H. 0. M. Watson, who made the presentation on behalf of the donors, eaid the many years Mr Knox had been connected with St John's choir enhanced the pleasure he had in taking part in the proceedings. Mr Knox had proved himself a good chorister, both in his ability, as a singer, and iv lii 3 regular attendance at practice, and had always been to tho fare on all musical occasions. Ho had conducted the musical society for a considerable time, and had assisted in a great many concerts in Christchurch for charitable and othor purposes. His valuable assistance had beon at all times most generously given, and ho felt that the musical portion of Christchurch would sustain a great los 3 in being deprived
of his (Mr Knox's) presence. He trusted he would be successful in his new career. He then handed to Mr Knox a very handsome gold albert chain and locket, which he trusted the recipient might live long to wear. Mr Knox acknowledged tho gift in suitable terms, and a pleasant evening was spent in the practice of orchestral and vocal music. Mr Knox leaves for Hokitika this morning, whither he goes to fill the position of manager of tho Union Bank.
