THE TEMPERANCE QUESTION AND THE ELECTION.
♦ A meeting of the Temperance electors was held last night in the Templar Hull. About 50 persons were present. It waa resolved to send a deputation to each of the candidates, for the purpose of getting answers to the following questions. (1.) Will you support an Act for the amendment of the Licensing Laws, which will reduce the distriots to n workable eizp, and have tho Local Option voto taken by proper Government machinery? (2). Will you alao support the alteration of the time of Licensing now houses from one* ia three months to once in twelve months ? (3.) Will you support a Local Option Act without a compensation clause? (4.) If with compensation, whence do you propose to derive the necessary funds? (5.) Will you oppiso opening public houses on Sunday ? The following gentlemen were appointed as a deputation : — Revs H. O. M. Watson and W. H. Keast, Messrs R. Clephane, C. M. Grey, and J. T. Smith. The meeting was adjourned to Saturday night to receive replies from tho candidates.
