PAPANUI BAND OF HOPE.

The first monthly public meeting in connection with the Papanui Band of Hope was held in St. Paul's Schoolroom on Friday last. Tho Rev F. G. Brittan, the Pi eeident of the Society, occupied the chair, with the two vice-presi- ' dents, the Revs Homer and Richardson on the platform. The Chairman, in oponing the meeting, expressed himßelf surprised and happy to see sueh '. a large number prc3ent. A number of readings, recitations, songs, and dialogues were given by the members of the society, assisted by friends, in capital style. Addresses from the Revs Homer nnd Richardson and a vote of thanks to the Chairman, brought a very pleasant meeting to a close. A number of both children and adults present signed the pledge. The society now numbers about 130 members.
