Feb. G. The Harbour Board have prepared a statement showing the number of shipping casualties which have occurred iv the port of Oamarti during the past 18 years. The number of total wrecks is 20; number stranded and got; off, 13 ; total, 33. For the lasfc three years there has not been a single casualty; aud there was only one in the preceding year, 1875. This state of affairs is fco be attributed to the fact that since 1875 the breakwater has been sufficiently far advanced to offer -i:-otection to nearly all kinds of shipping.
