CHRISTCHURCH ARTILLERY.
The secoDd competition for the silver inkstand given by the non-commissioned officers of the Christchurch Battery of Artillery for the purpose of encouraging rifle practice amongst the gunners took place at the Sandhills range yesterday morning. At the first contest Gunner Stevenson was victorious with 34 points, but yesterday was quite out of the competition from the first. The weather was exceedingly fine, perhaps a little too much so for really good firing, the sun bearing direct into the faces of the competitors, and dazzling the sight. The conditions were five shots at each range with any position, the inkatand to be won twice before becoming the private property of any member of the battery.
