CHRISTCHURCH CADETS.

The firing for selection of cadets to represent the Christchurch corps in the forthcoming competition for colonial prizes at Auckland, came off yesterday afternoon at the Sandhills range. The weather was bright and clear, somewhat too much of the former being experienced for good marksmanship. There was no wind to interfere with the correctness of aim, but the sun was certainly too glaring. The following are the scores, the conditions being fire shots at 150 and 250 yards, any position, and regulation targets : —

The provisions of the prize regulation*being that one representative can be sent for every forty cadets or fraction of forty over twenty, Canterbury is entitled to send three representatives. The Lyttelton Cadets have yet to compete, and should one or more of them make higher than any of the three highest scores given above, they will have the right of sending such as representatives of the province. The scoring above is, however, particularly good— especially at the first range— and will be somewhat difficult to beat.
