This Dat. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) Drunk and Using Obsexe Language. — Alexander Campbell -was charged with this olfence, and was discharged with a caution. Cattle Trespass.— Robert Wylie and Richard Collier were each charged with having a cow at large ; fined, in each case, ss, and 4s costs. Assault.— James. Fox was charged by Mary Angus with striking her on the face, on Friday last. Complainant stated that as she was standing by her own house in Dampier 3ay, she was telling accused her opinion of him, and also telling him to go about his business ; he rushed up and struck her ; she called her. husband to corroborate this statement, who said that he saw the blow struck, and also heard his wife previously call the accused a lazy vagabond, and a loafer. James Kerr stated that he saw the blow struck ; it was on the shoulder ; the complainant provoked the accused by calling him foul names. Jn defence, accused said that the complainant was continually abusing both him and his wife, and that she was drunk all Ipst week. The Bench said it was evident that an assault had been committed, but there had been great provoca- 1 •tion ; tho accused would be fined Is and 63 6d costs. The complainant must learn to be civil lo people.
