•Since our last the weather has undergone another change, disagreeable enough to the citizens of Hokitika, but very welcome to the diggers in the raining districts. Yesterday morning broke gloomily, and shortly after eleven o'clock the rain commenced to descend in torrents. In the afternoon heavy squalls from the N.E. rapidly succeeded each other, and the night which followed was cold, wet ancl cheerless, the strong gusts which from time to time swept over the town coming with almost hurricane force, causing the wooden structures of which llokitika is at present composed to tremble. The sea also presented a remarkably wild appearance, as it broke in thunder on the beach. — West Coast Times, Oct. 9,
