Thk steamship Omeo, 1000 tons', H. Mackie commander, arrived in harbour on Saturday at 1.30 p.m. ; cleared Port Phillip heads, with the English mail on board, at 6.30 p.m., on the Ist; passed Swan Island at 4 p.m the following day; experienced moderate H.W. and N.W. winds, with fine weather, and pa-sed the Solander at 7 a.m. on the 6th, and arrived at Bluff harbour at 2 p.m., same day; discharged 80 tons cargo, and left again at midnight, arriving at Port Chalmers at y.30 on the 7th; sailed for Lyttelton at 6.30 p.m. on the 9th ; and arrived as above. She sails fur Wellington this day. The barque Cantero, arrived in harbour yesterday morning ; left Newcastle on the 18th of September. Experienced easterly winds first part of the passage. When 4 0 miles from Newcastle, passed a ship's lower mast, painted white ; experienced southerly winds to Cape Farewell; got through tinStraits on Oct. 2, as far as Waipapa Point, when it came on to blow a S.W. gale ; on th< 4th, had to run back to Port Underwood continuing blowing from the S.W. until the--Bth. Left for Lyttelton on that date, and arrived on the llth as above; she brings a cargo of coals consigned to Mr R. Wood.
The p.s. Comerang, Capt. Maillor, arrived in harbour yesterday morning, at 11.30. from Dunediii: Left Port Chalmers on Friday, at 3 p.m., and arrived off Tiraaru at daylight, on Saturday ; left at 1 *P- m > and arrived at Akaroa at midnight on Saturday ; left again at 6 a.m. on Sunday, and arrived as above. The s.s. Airedale, Capt. Kennedy, arrived in harbour yesterday, at 3..30 p.m. She left the wharf at Onehuugaon the 3rd, at midday; at 1.40 p.m. anchored at Herne bay. The signal being flying at the Heads, "bar dangerous." At 6.30 p.m. it was blowing a strong gale from the south west, with very heavy gusts and showers of rain ; had to let go the second anchor to prevent the ship from dragging ; at 10.30 hove up both anchors and steamed under Popanga for shelter ; on the 4th, at 9 a.m., proceeded, to the Heads, but it being telegraphed from the station, " bar still dangerous." bore up, and anchored again. On the 3rd, the weather being more moderate, crossed the bar at 10 a.m., and at midnight brought uj> oft Taranaki. At 2.45 a.m. of the 6th, the surf boat having come off with mails and passengers, proceeded at once ; at 6.30 p.m. anchored outside the Boulder Bank, at Nelson, and sailed from thence at 12.26 p.m. on the 7th, and arrived at Picton at 9 p.m. ; left there again at 2.30 a.m. on the Bth : arriving at Wellington at 7.30 a.m., same day. Sailed from Wellington at 3.15 p.m on the 10th; encountered a strong south-east gale and heavy head seas, and arrived as above. We are obliged to Mr E. B. Pringle for files. She sailed for Dunedin yesterday afternoon.
