Accident at Maketu
WOUNDS TO FACE AND NECK
Severe woUnds to face and neck were suffered by Mr Kiwi Corbett, aged about 30, a cartage contractor of Maketu, when he was duck-shoot-ing on the lagoon _at Maketu early on Tuesday morning. The injuries were caused by bis gun exploding accidentally. Mr Corbett was rendered unconscious, but recovered and was able to attract the attention of companions in the vicinity. Mr Corbett and two other men, Messrs K. and N. Newdick, went out shooting early in the morning. After they had separated to take up their positions a shot was heard by Messrs Newdick and . some time later they noticed that Mr Corbett was trying to attract their attention. They placed the injured man in a boat and took him to the beach, where he received attention from a doctor. He was then taken by motor to the Tauranga Hospital, where his condition last night was very serious, but not critical. Mr Corbett is a married man with three children. He was a representative footballer.
