WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Te Puke Branch The monthly meeting of the Te Puke Women’s Institute was held in St. Andrew’s Hall on Tuesday last, Mrs Strachan presiding over a very fair attendance of members. Before commencing business, Mrs Sti’achan made feeling reference to the late Mrs Crowley, who had been the Institute’s most untiring and conscientious worker in everything pertaining to the welfare of members. Her loss at such an early age had cast a gloon over the district. A motion of sympathy to Mr Crowley and children and* relatives was carried, members standing in silence, The President .introduced Miss E. Diprose, as Secretary, in succession to Mrs Atkins, who was leaving the district. .
Owing to the Drama Festival falling on the date of the July meeting it was decided to hold next meeting on the lDth June. Mrs Strachan was appointed to represent the Institute on the Group Committee and Mrs Worsley was elected a member of the Institute. An interesting demonstration on the making of puff pastry was given by Mrs Fagan, several members appropriating portions of the pastry to experiment with at home. Competitions. —Posy, Mrs A. Gemming 1, Mrs F. Palmer 2, Mrs Strachan 3 ; biscuits, Mrs H. A. Washer 1.
The roll call, “A Winter Pudding,” was responded to by practically all present, and resulted in a number of simple recipes, as well as many intricate one’s coming forward.
An interesting afternoon was brought to a close with the serving of a delightful tea by Mesdames Gemming, V, Gordon and Miss Gordon,
