Te Puke Women's Institute

The monthly meeting of the Te Puke Women’s Institute was held in St Andrew’s Hall on Tuesday, June 6th. There was a good attendance of members and visitors. Miss Chappell was chosen as Te Puke’s delegate to the N. Z. Conference to be held at Christchurch in July. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded-the social committee for the work they had done in connection with the Women’s Institute’s first annual show. Miss Chappell, leader of the social committee, presented the prizes won at the show. Mesdames Richards, Brownlee and Strachan, were elected to the “Sunshine” committee. An Institute library was formed. It was decided that each member donate a book to the library. The following- were elected a library committee Mesdames Fagan, Riley and Keleher.

Mrs Christian, of Tauranga, gave a most interesting talk on the life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning. Miss Chappell ably demonstrated tatting and was willing to give individual tuition to members at 6d per hour, 3d to be do nated to the hospital box and 3d to the Institute funds. The competition ‘Eggless cake’ was won by Mrs Sherman, with Mrs Gemming second, The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Jamieson. Raymond, Forrester and Jackson,
