Relief Conditions In The Country
The revised scale of country relief recently published by the Unemployment Board is intended to show.only the average payment and work required for each of three weeks out of four. It is not intended t,hat local authorities should be constrained to require men to work in periods of less than one half-day at a time.
The ration of relief specified should be taken as covering the week, and arrangements may be made by the local authority to have it earned on a contract basis or such relief may be arranged in varying weekly proportions to avoid men being called to work for periods shorter than the halfday. . . : V
