MR JOSEPH GREENWOOD,

who opposes Mr Mitchelson in the Liberal interest, is a farmer who has lived from his infancy in Auckland district, and is intimately acquainted with the history, politics and needs of the place. Widely known and esteemed as a man of honesty and honour, Mr Greenwood will obtain the bulk of the country votes, and also' strong support from the Greyites in the Kingsland and Mount Eden suburbs. His platform embraces drastic retrenchment and such grand reforms as a Land Tax and State Bank. He is no orator, any more than Mr Mitchelson is; but he shows a grasp of political subjeciß, combined with ease and fluency of expression. Above all, he is on the right side. He has a hard fight to face, but he may just manage to ' beat the favourite.'
