The Druids' Ball.
The annual celebration of the Auckland Druids took the form of a plain and fancy dress ball, which came off in St. George's Hall, Newton, on Tuesday, 11th Nor. There were between 50 and 60 couples present, anct excellent dance music was discoursed by Meaßrs Reid and Davis, while the programme consisted of some 24 dances. The committee consisted of Messrs A. Kidd, P. Archer, J. Strathern, B T. MichaeJs, A. V. Hunt, T. Eeed, P. Mackie, G. A. Peace, J. H. Murphy, J. Easson, H. Bloxseme, and the onerous duties of M.C's. were faithfully performed by Messrs Mackie and Harvey. There was a total absence of anything like decorations about the hall, but the many bright dresses acted as a set off. Amongrst the most noticeable dresses worn amongst the single ladies were —Miss Howard, evening: dress of pink lawn, with pink trimmings ; Miss Phillips, as a Butterfly ; Miss M. Butler, as a Sweet Girl Graduate ; and Misa Smith, pretty evening dress of pongee or nun's veiling. Mrs Michaels undoubtedly carried off first honours amongst the matrons, and she wore heliotrope silk, trimmed with velvet and tastefully ornamented with pansiest Ihe list of dresses worn, as near as oan be obtained, areas follows :— Mrs Strathern, Queen of the Night ; Mi«3S Cornage, Carmen ; Misa Phillips, Butterfly ; Mis* Howell, fiametta from Mascotte ; Miaa Bain, Highland Lassie; Miss Fortzer, Highland Lassie; Miss JButler, Girl Graduate ; Miss Harvey, .Ranch Girl ;. Miss Thorn, Indian Princess ; A. Harvey, Patchwork ;. Miss Brannigan. Patience ; Miss Stuart, Mascotle ; Misa Phillips, Satanella ; Miss Danks, Ophelia. The followingput in an appearance arrayed in evening dress :— Mesdames Waddell, Fergusson, J. Smith, King, Hamilton, Reed, Kavanagh, Snowden, Davidson, Belsham, Exton, Misses Brown, Smith, E. Wilkins, Flynn, Ashby, Exton, Eoberts, Fleming, and Kavanagh. The best sustained characters among the gentlemen were those worn by Mr Peter Mackie and Mr Hunt, as Stanley and Emm Pasha, respectively. Before eonolud* ing, a word of praise is due to the caterer, Mr Geo. Stainton, for the excellent way in which he attended to this most important department. Dancing was kept up with vigour till an early hour the next morning.
