Children's Ball.
A plain and fancy dress ball of more than ordinary interest was held in the Choral Hall on Thursday evening last, when the children attending Miss Scott'a dancing class were present as a fitting finale to a most enjoyable season. It was arranged that the young people should occupy the floor till about nine o'clock, when the adults would supersede them, and this was carried out with great success. The juveniles entered into the fun with great spirit, and it was generally acknowledged that for beauty and originality of costume, they were immeasurably superior to the grown-up people. The little folks also danced very prettily, and won goldea opinions for the really excellent manner in which they went through the graceful turns of the minuet and cotillion, many of those present being of opinion that it excelled a similar performance by the adults. One little fellow named Master Nicol, of very diminutive proportions, looked charming as ' Little Lord Fauntleroy,' while little Miss Coasar was greatly admired. After the rising generation had danced themselves into a sleepy state, they were pounced upon by watohful guardians, carried off home and safely ensconoed in their beds. Then the adults made their appearance, and opened the ball with a grand inarch, which was witnessed by an immense number of spectators, the dance music being supplied by Mr Adams's string band, which seemed to give general satisfaction. On this occasion a large number of therevellers wore the same oostumeß as at the first dance, but the majority seemed to favour plain more than fancy dress. Of the latter, Miss Morgan, who was attired aa Mametta (in 'La Mascotte'), carried off first honors; whilst in evening dress there were a number of candidates for the honor of ne'le. Miss Jackson looked very pretty in coral-pink gauze, trimmed with ribbons. Miss Warren was greatly admired in a pretty evening dress of cream veiling ruby plush, relieved by blush roaes. MissNioola» also excited attention, in a tasteful costume of Tuscan cloth, Medici collar, faced with ruby. Miss Clara Steele wore a gown of black velveteen, with cream tips. Miss Knight, pale blue and silver trimmings; Miss Buckland, cream llama and cardinal plush. Miss Odssar, cream court costume, beautifully tricnmed with pearls. Miss Dickey, pale blue and silver starlight. Miss Scott, full court oostume in rose pink, trimmed with lace and silver. Miss A. Scott, full court costume in sky blue and silver. Dancing was kept up until about three the next morning.
