BALL AT ARAPOHUE.
A very enjoyable ball was given by the benedicts of this district and Whakahara to the bachelors, in return for past favours, in. the large school here, on the Ist inst., and although the inclement weather kept a good many of the invited away, yet 35' couples attended ; and, to judge by the hearty manner in which the dancing to Mr Molloy's excellent playing was kept up till daylight, the ball was a great success. The supper provided by Mr Corkill, of Aratapu, was first-class, and duly appreciated. Mr Henry Brown, the champion oarsman of theWairoa, was present, and received three hearty cheers. Votes of thanks to the benedicts for the pleasant entertainment and to Mr and Mrs Leggett for throwing open their house to the guests were proposed and cordially received. I won'i be so rash as to give my opinion as to the'Twlle of the ball, but I heard the following ' young ladies mentioned as amongst the neatest and most tastefully dresses, viz.: — Misses Bradley, Dreadon, Jones, Bhersing, and Mary Paton; while Messrs Woodhead, Isbister, Hodges, and Brown were the principal lady-killers.
