To the Editor : Sir, — In reference to a paragraph inserted in the Observer relative to the departure of Captain C. Hopkins from Te Kopuru, I am desired by many Kopuru residents to send you a letter, contradicting the report that he Avas serenaded Avith tincans by the Kopuru residents. That he was tin-canned is true, but by the residents of Te Kopuru is false. A feAV weak minded, spiteful, and vindictiA^e residents, Avho occupy a very loav position in the Kopuru social scale, ancl who have always sheAvn an envious feeling towards their superiors, .vere foolish enough to commit this impudent act, for Avhich they have justly incurred the displeasure of all those living in authority and respectability on the Kopuru Station. This displeasure has been, and still Avill be, shoAvn to them in a marked manner. Captain Hopkins has left behind him on the N. Wairoa a great many warm and attached friends, who wish him every success in his future career. I sincerely trust you will insert this letter and greatly oblige many who regularly peruse your valuable and highly interesting paper.— Yours, etc., NEMO.
